It’s my life it’s now or never I ain’t going to live forever. I just want to live when I’m alive. It’s my life. That sentence is part of the lyrics for Bon Jovi's song My Life. The title for this story is also from that same song.
In writing my book I was fortunate that I was able to do things “My Way” and everything I do is because I wish to do it. Today is May 31st 2011 tomorrow I will be speaking in front of 120 nursing students at NorQuest College here in Edmonton.
I don't get paid for this gig nor do I try to sell my book but the experience is so rewarding because the students are so passionate about helping people. I'm delighted to share my story with them while I hone my own skills at public speaking and bring some insight to the nurses about bipolar disorder and that’s why I do it. I also admire nurses as they have always been great to me. Bipolar Shoes has been all about giving back as that is “My Way” of saying thank you to all those who have helped me over the years.
Now let’s be honest I would like every nursing student to buy my book as I think it would be useful to them but that’s unrealistic so I would ask them to mention my website to others. That gesture could help someone else read my book. The nice thing about Bipolar Shoes is anyone can read it.
My daughter was a student at NorQuest who just graduated from the LPN program in May. She is now working at her dream job at the Grey Nuns Hospital. She opened the door for me to speak at NorQuest and I’m thankful to her because it got me an encore performance with you here today. I hope each of you will visit this site and take a few seconds to fill out the comment sheet.
It was a pleasure to share my story with all of you and I wish you all the best in your future nursing careers. People Do Matter has been my motto for many years and I thank you for choosing to make a difference. For me I’m just happy doing things “My Way,” Thanks Frankie, I still love that song.
